Product Description

British vehicle manufacturers Bedford first had an interest in this type of vehicle back in December of 1938 when engineers working at Vauxhall (Bedford`s parent company) suggested producing a four wheel drive Bedford Truck with off road ability.

The advantages of an all-wheel drive General Service (GS) lorry for the military were obvious and the War Office were approached for permission to continue with the design. The details were approved just one month after the outbreak of war in 1939 and the first prototype was being tested on 1st February, 1940. It proved a great success, and with the loss of vehicles abandoned by the BEF at Dunkirk mass production was ordered from February 1941. The Bedford QL could be found on every battlefield in all campaigns during WW2 and was produced throughout the rest of the war years.

Some 52,245 had been built by VE Day and many bodywork variations had been adopted for use on the sturdy QL Chassis. A letter coding after the QL nomenclature indicated which body was fitted on the chassis, hence QLB indicated a Bofors towing vehicle with ample stowage for crew and ammunition, the QLR were fitted for radio and QLT`s were troop carriers with longer truck bodies and bench seats to accommodate seated troops.

The QL lasted many years after the war, seeing action in many of the post war campaigns. One of the last in use was with the TA at Fenham Barracks and was retired 1984.

The model is rigged for animation, and the product features four detailed and textured resolutions of the model.

This model is a 3DMax model, saved in version 8 as a MAX file, and requires 3DMax. It does not include any other formats to allow it to be opened in any other software. The model is rigged where appropriate, and mapped and textured.
