Product Description

A howitzer is a type of artillery piece that is characterized by a relatively short barrel and the use of comparatively small explosive charges to propel projectiles at trajectories with a steep angle of descent. In the taxonomies of artillery pieces used by European (and European-style) armies in the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries, the howitzer stood between the "gun" (which was characterized by a longer barrel, larger propelling charges, smaller shells, higher velocities and flatter trajectories) and a "mortar" (which has the ability to fire projectiles at even higher angles of ascent and descent).

The 10.5 cm leFH 18 (German: leichteFeldHaubitze "light field howitzer") was a German light howitzer used in the Second World War. The gun, less the carriage and shield, was also used as the armament of the SdKfz 124 Wespe self-propelled artillery vehicle.

The 10.5 cm leFH 18 was the standard divisional field howitzer used during the Second World War. It was designed and developed by Rheinmetall in 1928 and entered service with the Wehrmacht in 1935. The leFH18 remained in service with the German Army until 1945. Before 1938 the leFH 18 was exported to Hungary and Spain. 53 units were also exported to Finland, where they were known as 105 H 33.

It has a heavy, simple breech mechanism with a hydro-pneumatic recoil system. The 10.5 cm leFH 18 was mounted on a towed chassis, with large metal or wood wheels rimmed with rubber. Initially, it was not fitted with a muzzle brake. In 1941 a muzzle brake was fitted to allow longer range charges to be fired. This increased the range by about 1,800 yards and was known as the leFH 18(M). In March 1942 a requirement was issued for a lighter howitzer. This led to a second modification, known as the leFH 18/40. This modification consisted of mounting the barrel of an leFH 18(M) on the carriage for a 7.5 Pak 40 (75-mm AT gun). The new carriage increased the rate of fire as well as making the howitzer lighter. Additionally, a more efficient muzzle brake was added, decreasing the recoil. Ballistically, the 10.5 cm leFH 18(M) and the leFH 18/40 are identical.

The model is rigged for animation, and the product features four detailed and textured resolutions of the model.

This model is a 3DMax model, saved in version 8 as a MAX file, and requires 3DMax. It does not include any other formats to allow it to be opened in any other software. The model is rigged where appropriate, and mapped and textured.
