Vendor Spotlight: Igor Puškarić

Igor Puskaric (Iggy-Designs):

1) Please tell us a little something about yourself.
For example: where are you from, where do you live, do you have any formal education or are you self-taught, etc.
My name is Igor Puskaric, I come from Croatia and I am a self-taught 2D/3D generalist in various areas of digital art.

2) What software or tools do you use?
For the main part I use 3D Max, Zbrush, Photoshop and After effects.

3) How did you get started making digital models?
I started based on pure passion and curiosity, tutorial by tutorial, then I met other people who have been helping me in my learning process to this date.

4) What experiences influenced your models or products? Where do you get your ideas for your products? Did you do any market analysis or did you make something that you thought people would enjoy?
I was influenced by everything and anyone, but mostly all I do is my own version. I don't like copying. It is boring to me. I always make something I enjoy in the first place. After that is mostly luck. I don't have time or resources for a more serious market exploration, so I must take one-shot model risks. Carl has been helpful and motivating me to push the envelope a bit further, specially in our last Zeneca Brute model. I'm glad he pushed me to that extra material.
We made an awesome quality model.

5) What kind of challenges have you faced in your career?
Mostly money and job insecurity based issues, and sometimes lack of knowledge and even inspiration. But you just need to keep pushing no matter what.

6) Do you have any thoughts or opinions about how the community has changed?
The way I see it, I like that so many info is available for easier learning, and mostly everyone is open for an advice. There is also much more top quality work out there and a lot more competition in all areas.

7) What advice do you have for new merchants who want to improve their artwork?
Observe, learn and act. Play, enjoy it.

8) Is there anything else you'd like to share with the readers? Do you have any thoughts or ideas about models or products or anything else in the digital world?
If you are a designer, try to find your own language and cultivate it. Find good, reliable people you can work with and network as mush as you can. I wish a stream of good luck to everyone. :)

Carl Culberson (Darkseal):

1) Please tell us a little something about yourself.
For example: where are you from, where do you live, do you have any formal education or are you self-taught, etc.
I'm from Michigan with some college but everything 3D related is all self taught. I started learning Maya while my job had slowed down. I thought if I ever needed to look for new work I should teach myself some new skills in the area I love.

2) What software or tools do you use?
I am currently using Photoshop, Maya, Zbrush, Poser, and a few others here and there like Flash, Octane, Mental ray, ... and many more!

3) How did you get started making digital models?
When I started learning (during my slow work hours) 3D, I had been using Poser for a few years by then. I thought it only appropriate that, once I lost my job, I should start putting content out at the marketplaces on the web. That blossomed into me making content full time.

4) What experiences influenced your models or products? Where do you get your ideas for your products? Did you do any market analysis or did you make something that you thought people would enjoy?
First I try to fill a gap if I see one in the market. Then I go back to the things I would love to have myself. If anyone knows how to do a market analysis of "what will be bought" if I make it, I would LOVE to have a conversation with them!

5) What kind of challenges have you faced in your career?
Every day brings a new challenge. It would be hard to list them all. My biggest challenge would be "what do I make next ?".

6) You've been involved in the digital artist community for a while now. Do you have any thoughts or opinions about how the community has changed?
I really don't see any changes in the community. Lots of same faces, new people joining into the "I just started, need help"... The only thing that changes (that I really see) is that new software comes out and continues to open the horizon!

7) What advice do you have for new merchants who want to improve their artwork?
My advise would be to nit pick your work to death. Keep playing with your items you make until it looks perfect. Compare what you make with items you love. It might go against everything anyone else might say.... "don't compare, do what you love, it doesn't matter if XYZ".... It does matter. Boost your quality by paying attention to detail and say to yourself "Would I buy this". There is nothing worse than spending 2 weeks of your time and having it "not sell". But then again, this is my full time job.

8) Is there anything else you'd like to share with the readers? Do you have any thoughts or ideas about models or products or anything else in the digital world?
What else can I say...? Reach for the stars? Keep working, nitpick, compare, work some more, analyse your work, have others tell you "what they really think", grow some thick skin and don't take negative comments to heart... Take what you learn and do it again!
